Real Hustle, Real Fix · No. 01 · Creative/Digital

Malik DJs every weekend and can't say what he made last month

Four years of steady bookings, paid across Venmo, CashApp and PayPal, and none of it ever landed in one place. Here is what we'd do first.

Weekends

Parties, proms, weddings

Venmo, CashApp, PayPal — never reconciled

His own word for his cash flow

02 · What's already working

  • Demand is solved. Four years of repeat bookings with zero marketing spend is a moat most businesses pay for.

  • He already thinks in systems. He talks about "income buckets" and a "growth map" — the instinct is there, it's just not written down anywhere durable.

  • He reinvests in his gear. Better speakers, better sound — he treats the equipment like a business asset, because it is one.

03 · The gap

Three payment apps means three partial pictures and no whole one. A good weekend and a slow one look the same in his head, because nothing gets totaled until tax season, if then.

The cost is not a missed payment. It's that he can't tell, mid-year, whether the business is actually growing or just staying busy.

04 · Start here — this week

Open one hustle-only account and give it three buckets.

1

A free hustle-only bank account. Every app routes into it before anything gets spent.

2

Three income buckets inside it: gear, taxes, rent — split automatically or by hand each Sunday.

3

A one-line intent statement taped to the desk: what winning looks like in six months.

Layer in later — not this week

A weekly tracker spreadsheet: income, fees, growth goals

MONTH 2

A booking link that collects a deposit, so every app becomes one

MONTH 3

Register the DJ name, get the EIN — both free or close to it

MONTH 4

Map the growth path: speaker upgrade → bookings team → email funnel

MONTH 6

Malik comes back in Season 2. We'll look at what stuck.
